FINANCIAL INSTITUTION
PLEDGE TO FIGHT ECONOMIC ABUSE
#HelpUsRise
As an employee working in a Canadian financial institution, I believe in women’s empowerment, economic justice and equality. I pledge to action against Economic Abuse and other forms of gender-based violence.
I will:
- Learn about Economic Abuse by visiting the Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment website.
- Read the list of policy recommendations for financial institutions to support women experiencing Economic Abuse.
- Urge the financial institution in which I work to adopt policies to fight Economic Abuse.
- Help increase awareness of Economic Abuse by sharing on my social media – including using the #HelpUsRise hashtag, tagging @CCFWE and posting the “I Pledge to Fight Economic Abuse” image.
This pledge is for employees who work in financial institutions to demonstrate their commitment to fighting economic abuse and supporting survivors in rebuilding their lives.
WHY ?
Economic abuse is a deliberate pattern of control in which individuals interfere with their partner’s ability to acquire, use, and maintain economic resources. The lack of access to economic resources undermines a woman’s independence and agency, such as limiting her access to social support services, undermining mental well-being and exacerbating other risk factors contributing to poverty. Further, Canadian women who experience economic abuse are five times more likely to experience physical and other forms of gender-based violence.
By taking this pledge, I commit to becoming an advocate within my social circle and local community to advance gender equality by working to reduce and eliminate incidents of economic abuse affecting Canadian women.
